“Just keep running.”
Our U13 coach Dan Blessing took a few of the boys on a run from Náměstí Míru to Vyšehrad. It isn't far, but they were badly out of shape.
On Nuselský most, Max, one of the most talented players on the team, stopped: “I can't do it.”
“Don't worry about the bridge,” Dan told him. “Just keep running.”
Max set off again. A little later, it came back: “I really can't do it.”
“Just stay with me.”
They crossed the bridge and Max thought it was over. But Dan had other plans: “Now we're going to catch the player in front of us. And beat him.”
Max couldn't believe his ears. Then he locked in and sprinted. The same boy who a minute earlier could barely run.
He won the run.
Who Coach Dan is
Dan used to be a manager at Vanguard, one of the largest investment companies in the world. A very well-paid job, a secure career.
Then he felt God calling him elsewhere. He quit and went to a refugee camp to coach kids who don't have it easy in life.
In the end his path led him to us at Ambassadors, where he serves Jesus through football.
He travels to Ukraine often. He even organised a fundraiser that brought some of the players there to Prague for a friendly match.
These are the coaches and the kids you are supporting.
